Shalina Healthcare, a leading pharmaceutical company with a long-standing presence across Africa, is set to mark a major milestone on Friday with the official launch of its expanded portfolio into the Over-The-Counter (OTC) and consumer healthcare market.
The event will celebrate the company’s significant achievements and its continued commitment to enhancing healthcare across the continent. Vikas Khandelwal, Vice President & Business Head – East Africa at Shalina Healthcare Ltd, highlighted the transformative journey of the company in Kenya. Shalina Healthcare began its operations in the country in 2018 through the acquisition of the Pharmaceutical Manufacturing Company (PMC). This move enabled the company to introduce global brands in key therapeutic areas, including dermatology and pain management.
The company’s growth trajectory continued with the acquisition of Orange Pharma Limited in 2022, further solidifying Shalina Healthcare’s position in the Kenyan market. This acquisition elevated Shalina Healthcare into the top 5 pharmaceutical companies in Kenya, enhancing its capability to meet the diverse healthcare needs of the population.
Innovating for the Consumer Market
The upcoming launch of Shalina Healthcare’s Consumer Division in 2024 will introduce several global brands to the Kenyan market, including Germol, a personal hygiene care brand that has made a substantial impact across Sub-Saharan Africa. Additionally, Shalina Healthcare will unveil the Monalisa brand, a line of body lotions and creams tailored for African skin. Monalisa, which has been recognized as the Best Moisturizer Brand of the Year 2024 by FMCG Brands, underscores the company’s commitment to premium quality and effectiveness.
Celebrating New Additions and Local Impact
The event will also highlight the acquisition of renowned household brands Kaluma, Sonamoja, and Sonadol. These additions position Shalina Healthcare among the top pharmaceutical companies in Kenya and further reinforce its dedication to improving healthcare accessibility and affordability. Shalina Healthcare’s Kenyan operations, headquartered at Shalina House in Babadogo along Thika Road, employ over 200 individuals and support a comprehensive sales and marketing network across the country.
In his statement, Vikas Khandelwal emphasized the company’s ongoing mission: “Our continued growth and expansion in Kenya are testaments to our dedication to improving healthcare outcomes and creating job opportunities in the region. We remain focused on our founding principles of quality, affordability, and availability as we strive to make a meaningful impact on healthcare across Africa.”
